APLA organizes a Training on the Manual for the Inclusion of Disability within Palestinian Local Authorities

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) conducted a training on the Manual for the Inclusion of Disability within Palestinian Local Authorities, prepared under the activities and programs of enhancing the capacities of local authorities, implemented by the Technical and Legal Support Unit at APLA in partnership with EducAid, funded by LGRP-GIZ. The training was attended by 60 representatives from local authorities and relevant organizations with the aim of training on them on how to use the manual and receive feedback on its use.

Activities Coordinator, Shorouq Rabee' clarified that the aim behind preparing the Manual lies in inclusion of disability in the plans, programs, policies and activities of local authorities as well as their various events, in order to contribute to the empowerment and integration of people with disabilities and their families, guaranteeing their inclusion, and contributing to enhancing social justice and ending disability based discrimination in the Palestinian society.

Meanwhile, Mo'ayyad Afaneh, the expert who developed the manual, presented the methodology of developing the manual, and areas of use, and the policies used for the inclusion of disability in local authorities, institutionalization of the concept "disability inclusion", in addition to the importance of establishing the social inclusion unit at the local authorities, establishing a database, inclusion of people with disabilities in planning processes, designing social activities and events in a way that guarantees the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities.
