The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA) organized a training workshop on Integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into Municipal Budgets. Bringing together 43 representatives of the Financial Management Hub members, the training aimed at developing practical tools to help municipalities prepare budgets based on sustainable development indicators, enhancing transparency in resource management and supporting data-driven decision-making to achieve more efficient and sustainable local development.
The workshop included three sessions. The key session provided an introduction to the methodology for integrating SDGs into local budgets, mechanisms for coding and linking SDGs to budget items, and standardizing an Excel template for data entry and analysis, with hands-on practice in filling out data. Particular focus was placed on Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). The follow-up session featured a review and analysis of the data entered by municipalities, strengthened participants’ capacities to prepare periodic reports in connection with the SDGs, and provided training on collecting indicators for other priority goals. This was tailored to improve integration between financial planning and monitoring of development performance within local government units (LGUs).
This workshop is part of the Municipal Technical Exchange Hubs project, implemented with the support of the GIZ Local Governance Reform Program. The initiative incorporates seven key hubs: Engineering and Planning, Social Inclusion and Integration, Financial Management, Public Relations, Creativity and Innovation, SDGs, and Village Councils.
