APLA organizes training on Partnerships of local authorities with the private sector

The Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA), in cooperation with the United Cities and Local Governments - Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA), the United Nations Development Program, Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), and the Turkish trade company Kibar held a training program for the Palestinian Local Authorities, on the role of the Local Authorities in addressing the challenges of urbanization and exploring innovative forms of financing through partnerships with the private sector or establishing their own companies. The program was inaugurated in presence of UCLG-MEWA President, President of the Union of Dannieh Municipalities, Mohamed Sadie, Mehmet Duman, UCLG-MEWA Secretary-General, and APLA’s Executive Director Mr. Abdallah Anati, and representatives of other partners.

 

Mr. Anati said that this program has been designed to provide participants with a background on the main concepts and modern trends with regards to city management in a comprehensive manner. It will also provide a detailed explanation of the different methods of private sector participation in basic municipal services. Also, the program will give a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework in this regard by presenting global practices and sharing them with the Local Authorities.

 

This program, which was held through Zoom technology over a period of two days, included an introduction about the Palestinian local Authorities’ experience, in partnership with the private sector and the challenges they face in this regards, in addition to a review of the most prominent challenges that face the local authorities around the world in urbanization and the localization of sustainable development goals. The program also addressed the previously mentioned challenges and approaches followed to manage cities comprehensively with the involvement of the private sector in comprehensive urbanization, while benefitting from international practices in these areas.
